Thanks to the ATmega16U2 chip instead of FTDI and ATmega8U2, which enables programming and communication via USB, you will now be able to program your Arduino much faster and transfer data faster due to the memory on the new chip.

You no longer need a USB driver for Linux and Mac operating systems. For Windows, it will be sufficient to introduce the 'inf' file that comes with the Arduino IDE to windows.

Now you can introduce your Arduino to your computer as a keyboard, mouse, joystick!

R3 has IOREF positioned next to the RESET pin and new unnamed pins with no connection, placed for general use. The IOREF pin provides convenience to the Arduino shield family for feeding through the board.
