A3144 is an integrated unlocked Hall effect sensor. When a magnet gets close to the sensor, the output pin changes its state. In this way, the Hall effect sensor works as a reliable presence sensor.
A reed sensor could also be used here, but this sensor has a disadvantage due to its glass housing and its dimensions.
